NORTH V SOUTH ROUTE
Northbound (6 nights/7 days): Considered a "build-up" towards the Arctic, this route features more, longer port stops (e.g., Ålesund, Trondheim, Tromsø) during daylight. It offers a more social, energetic atmosphere.
Geirangerfjord/Hjorundfjord/Honningsvag
Southbound (5 nights/6 days): Often regarded as more scenic because it navigates the Lofoten Islands and the Raftsund waterway during the day. It is more relaxed with fewer passengers, but features more nighttime port calls.
Honningsvag/Stokmarnes/Seven Sisters/Kristiansund
Best for Scenery: Southbound (highlights the Lofoten area).
Best for Cities & Sightseeing: Northbound (longer port stops).
Best for Northern Lights: Similar chances for both, but the Northbound route is often preferred for the anticipation of "chasing north".
For the best of both worlds, a round-trip (12 days) is recommended.
